There are a million things we have to do every week. Clean the house, go grocery shopping, drop the kids off, pick the kids up, get the dog to the vet, reorganize the basment, and take care of the garden. What to Look for With Pet Medications

If you have a four-legged pal you want them to be as healthy as possible. But finding the right pet medications can be frustrating. Your dog or cat can’t tell you if it’s working so you just have to keep testing all these different products on them until you see the results yourself. If you care so much about what food you buy for them you should take just as much care if not more when buying medical supplies for them.

You can do some research at an online drugstore or ask a local NY pharmacy if they know what are the most popular and reliable brands. You want to target the most common problems so make sure you get flee and heartworm medications. Flea collars are pretty common, however, tablets and topicals are also methods to get rid of parasites. Some will prevent and treat not only fleas but also ticks and mosquitoes. As for heart health, many pet foods will ensure a good heart, but some parasites can still wreak havoc. Look for tablets you can buy for your pet.

Other less serious conditions like bad breath or dander can be taken care of with milder treatments. Those aren’t necessarily tragic for your pet, but they do put a damper when you try to play with them. Brushes and bath treatments will help you with hair and dander. Chewables are good for bad pet breath.

If they have a question about their medication or condition, the first person they call is their doctor. But before you call your doctor, you can stop by your Staten Island pharmacy. Pharmacists should be your “go to” people when you have a health question. Trying to contact my doctor is like playing a game of phone tag. I call and I get the receptionist. Kids have a knack for doing dangerous things and falling down quite a lot. You pick up birthday cards, paper towels, a few bags of chips, and some new body wash that smells like a fresh bouquet of flowers after a spring rain shower. But now that spring is upon us that means it’s time for spring cleaning! We all hate cleaning the house, well except “clean freaks” like me who enjoy the beauty of organization.

But once you pick a weekend for spring cleaning and you get into the rhythm, it becomes almost therapeutic. You sort of marvel in delight as you find those headphones you were looking for 2 months ago and that stack of coupons you needed for Christmas shopping. Do You Need Mouthwash from your NY Pharmacy?

The short answer is yes, but let’s delve into that topic and find out what dentists actually think about. Unfortunately, many dental experts differ on their opinions of mouthwash’s effectiveness. However, most, including the ADA, agree that the benefits depend on the type of rinse used and what it’s treating. Everyone seems to have no qualms about fluoride rinses reducing your chances of cavities. Also, cosmetic rinses will also provide you with minty fresh breath for several hours.

But those cosmetic rinses are actually just masking your bad breath and not actually solving the problem. Anti-cavity rinses though, have been proven to fight up to 50% more cavity causing bacteria. Most dentists still recommend to patients that everyone should use an oral rinse in conjunction with toothpaste. It should never be a supplement for brushing and flossing. There are a lot of oral rinses that can be found at your NY pharmacy, but always look for the ones with the official ADA seal.

Prepare for More Colds as the Weather Changes

brooklyn pharmacyI feel like Mother Nature has been playing a cruel joke on us all. She gave us those two days of 60 degree weather a few weeks ago and then the temperature plummeted again. Now it’s the beginning of April and we’re barely above 50 degrees. I don’t know about the rest of you, but as the weather yo-yo’s back and forth, I get sick. Colds just don’t happen in the winter. They also occur quite frequently as we transition into the other seasons.

One day we’re wearing shorts and the next day it’s back to pants and a heavier jacket. Your body has no idea what’s going on. Thankfully, you can restock your cold medicine supply and grab a few boxes of tissues at your Brooklyn pharmacy because I’m sure you ran out after this brutally cold winter.
